Inexpensive Cars with the Most Headroom

by Bruce Sheridan

There are many advantages to buying the least expensive new cars on the market. Great gas mileage, new car warranties, reliability, new standard technology and of course; a very small starting price for a new vehicle. These cars do many things very well, but they certainly have their drawbacks.

Since the most affordable auto financing is on these cheap subcompact vehicles, people buying on a budget do not really get the luxury of a lot of available passenger and cargo space. This is just the trade off you have to accept, but some cars in this class do have more available headroom than others.

Taller drivers on a spending budget will certainly need to choose vehicles with more headroom, but it will also benefit people who need an affordable new car and have to drive a number of passengers around often. These are all some of the cheapest new cars with the most headroom dimensions:

  1. Nissan Cube - 42.6 inches
  2. Honda Fit - 40.4 inches
  3. Kia Soul - 40.2 inches
  4. Kia Rio - 40.0 inches
  5. Hyundai Accent - 39.9 inches
  6. Nissan Versa - 39.8 inches
  7. Smart Fortwo - 39.7 inches
  8. Suzuki SX4 - 39.6 inches
  9. Toyota Yaris - 39.3 inches
  10. Ford Fiesta - 39.1 inches
  11. Mazda Mazda2 - 39.1 inches
  12. Chevrolet Sonic - 38.7 inches

The biggest cars on this list are the boxier models like the Nissan Cube, Honda Fit and Kia Soul. Their peculiar designs may not be the most aerodynamic or stylish, but they are a bit easier to stretch out in.

The next biggest are mostly the cheap hatchback vehicles like the Kia Rio, Hyundai Accent and Nissan Versa. These are some of the cheapest on the entire list, and have a nice balance between interior space and exterior styling.

The difference between the top and bottom of the list is only about four inches, which may not sound like much until you are four hours deep into a road trip and wish you could stretch a little bit more.
